I'm back on-line for the second time in two days.
My old boot drive was a 320GB disk that got filled all the way up. Had
to run disk cleanup several times just to get enough space for my disk
cloning program to run.
Cloned it onto a 1.5TB disk I had left over from when one of my NAS
boxes failed (box failed - drive was "good"). Everything went smoothly;
no problems. That was yesterday.
Some time between when I got up to feed the cat this morning & the time
I finished my morning routine, the drive must have failed. I passed the
computer at 7:00 am & saw a normal desktop. At 9:00 am I saw a message
to "insert a bootable disk and press any key".
Bios saw the disk, but wouldn't boot from it.
Luckily I still had the old boot drive, so I went out and bought a new
2TB disk, cloned the boot drive to it & I'm back in business again ...
except that somewhere in the process, my generic powered USB hub has
stopped working. It's not recognized.
I bought the hub because this computer has a limited number of USB ports
in the back on the mother-board (and only one port free) & I don't want
to be digging around back there every time I need to attach a device.
Not sure how I'm going to replace it. A quick online search of NewEgg,
Tiger Direct & Staples doesn't seem to turn up anything similar.
I guess I'll worry about it later.
