This is a ludicrous argument.  Of course a single focal length will not be
as expensive as a zoom lens, but then you just have the one focal length,
so it's hardly a fair comparison.  In any case, why are you arguing about
speed?  This argument wasn't about whether an f2.8 zoom is better than a
bunch of f2.8 primes.  It was about why people use zooms, period,
especially telephoto ones.  I use the 80-320/4.5-5.6 zoom because it's
affordable.  It's simple... price is a major factor.  I can buy the
80-320/4.5-5.6 from B&H for $189, while the 300/4.5 will set me back $739
and a 200/2.8 is $854.  I can't afford Pentax's 300 or the 200mm prime,
but I can afford their 80-320.
