It seems that the number and variety of bees -- and butterflies -- are down
this year from the recent past.  I don't know if it is because this has
been a rainy summer and there are more alternatives, or if the insect
population is decreasing.  I avoid using insecticides on my property, out
of concern for our dog as well as the butterflies and bees.

I don't know what you mean by asking if the images are close-ups or macros.
Although I have what wi called a close-up lens or filter to put in from of
the usual lens, I have not used that is decades,  I have a 35 mm Macro,
which doesn't work well on butterflies as I have to get too close.  All of
my current insect images are taken with the heavy FA 100 mm F 2.8 Macro
lens, which has a limited to prevent it from going far afield when using
auto focus.
