Oh yeah, a couple of things I forgot: If you're in downtown Halifax, try to be outside at 12 noon. They fire a cannon at noon every day, as they've done for about 150 or 200 years, from Citadel Hill, an old fort in the middle of the city.
And, do try to get to Citadel Hill. It's now a federal museum, with lots of folks dressed in period costume, etc. And, if you do get there, there's a film on the history of Halifax (it's only about 20 minutes long) that is not to be missed - make sure you check it out.
