If you are using windows there is an unofficial driver for Nikon Scan v4 -
https://www.photo.net/discuss/threads/unoffical-vista-x64-driver-of-ls-8000ed-9000ed-for-nikon-scan-4-03.356066/
I'm running it with my LS8000 on Win10 x64. The Vista driver in that
post works fine, but you have to suspend Win10 from blocking unsigned
drivers when you install it. I don't recall the details but its an
option on the recovery menu.
I use Vuescan for 35mm B&W and Nikonscan for most medium format and all
color work. Nikonscan automatically detects the images on 120 film when
it makes thumbnails. The exposure and color tools are pretty
conventional straightforward, though it has more than its share of
quirks. For me the most maddening thing about Vuescan and the LS8000 is
getting it to align to the image correctly - no auto detection but
manually imputing offset and spacing measures.
You got a good deal - I paid $1800 for an LS8000 back in 2009, though I
paid a premium since the seller had it CLA'd by Nikon prior to putting
it up for auction 20,000 scans later it is still chugging along. The
glass film holder helps a lot with medium format scans.
Have fun -

What are you using to run the scanner, the Nikkon Software, or vuescan perhaps?
And is that on Windows or Mac ?
I'm using VueScan.
