I have a friend who has a smart phone review website and he shows me the phone camera outputs from time to time... All the relevant improvements are made by software. One of the last ones was a picture taken in low light that used multiple exposure in order to remove the blue cast of an object illuminated by an (almost only) blue light source. A sort of HDR for white balance.
