Paul, the main controversy concerns the fact that Pentax added unavoidable, 
baked in noise reduction, apparently kicking in at ISO 640. It cannot be turned 
off. Some people are bothered by the resulting images being softened a little, 
some people are bothered by it in principal, some people don't mind it, and 
some people don't notice it. I avoided the Mark II upgrade largely because of 
this. I shoot a lot at higher ISO settings. Dpreview dinged Pentax for it, but 
the camera got a better review at Pentax Forums.

Some people report better AF.

Another reason why I avoided it is because I would have had to recalibrate all 
my lenses for focus accuracy.
