Why do you have to use their modem? Over her in the UK, I am a customer of BT (British Telecom) and they always send you a modem/wifi base station with a new service. And I always stick it in the attic with all the others (generally as a backup). My thinking is that I don't want single 'all-in-one' solutions because if one aspect of the box falls down, then the whole shebang falls down. I prefer multiple boxes to isolate any problems. For my broadband, I use one of these modems: <https://tinyurl.com/ycmhdx7q> (Links to Amazon UK page) But obviously any compatible modem will do. >From there I come out of the modem and straight into an Apple Airport Extreme >base station - this simply generates wifi for the house. I also have a Netgear 5 port gigabit switch hooked up: <https://tinyurl.com/ycjxbc92> (amazon page) for various ethernet requirements. For troubleshooting, it's nice to discount everything else in the system and plug into the modem directly with a computer to first assess if the external DSL is the issue. Then troubleshoot forward into the chain if not. I feel your pain!
