This reminds me of one of the issues I had when we had fibre installed. I managed to find a page on my provider's website which gave the config details to talk to the ONT (optical network terminal) with your own 3rd-party ethernet / wifi router so I decided to decline their free one and keep using my existing one. Trouble was, the router I had didn't support all of the options that needed to be set. Setting the ones I could didn't work so I threw my hands in the air and accepted the free router. It did come with a silver lining in that the new one supports 802.11ac.
