This reminds me of one of the issues I had when we had fibre installed.  I 
managed to find a page on my provider's website which gave the config details 
to talk to the ONT (optical network terminal) with your own 3rd-party ethernet 
/ wifi router so I decided to decline their free one and keep using my existing 
one.

Trouble was, the router I had didn't support all of the options that needed to 
be set.  Setting the ones I could didn't work so I threw my hands in the air 
and accepted the free router.  It did come with a silver lining in that the new 
one supports 802.11ac.
