I'm late to the party but I'll chime in, much like Doug my income is highly variable these days (photography being what it is) but still I value the work-flow inherent in LR enough to submit to their ransom-ware tactics (which I loathe). I stay within LR for most of my edits if possible and venture out to PS only when absolutely necessary, all my images are accessible via a single catalogue (as I am regularly required to delve into past shoots) and it's currently sitting at just shy of 600k images without a hitch.
In the last year I've also been running an Xtouch Mini MIDI mixer via MIDI2LR to facilitate direct control of my major adjustments and image selection and this has significantly increased the pace of my work-flow when managing larger shoots.
