Oddly enough, in my local Waitrose early this afternoon there was very little
fresh produce, no canned goods like beans and tomatoes, no muesli or porridge,
even the expensive brands, no pasta, no rice (which is what I went in for), no
toilet paper, no antibacterial wipes (for my hearing aids) even though a virus
is not a bacterium..., no household cleaning products. And no people. They must
have all been in for an early morning raid.

My local Co-op on the other hand was overflowing with bounteous wonder (and it
wasn't labelled 'Waitrose'...

I managed to buy some toilet paper in Waitrose earlier in the week. There were
three packs left, at the back of the top shelf where only the tall could see
and reach them. I bought one 4-pack, but couldn't fit it in my saddlebag with
my work clothes and other stuff, so had to carry it on my back in a musette. Oh
the shame! of being thought a hoarder... but in fact practically everyone I saw
on my way home was carrying enormous quantities of toilet paper.

For the benefit of the unBritish, Waitrose is posh and middle class, Co-op is
down-to-earth working class.
