You are numerous Uno now? thought we still were ... sigh.
Most I've stayed in totally s 6 days straight.. average 3 days, then a day out to gather provisions and get a walk in. Try to get out early and prefer overcast or rainy day so not so many others around. People pretty well behaved in this part of Manhattan - about 80% wearing their masks, lining up for the quite well stocked local Trader Joe's and a couple of other stores has been easy to deal with - good control of indoor population.
My entertainment has mostly been jigsaw puzzles.. I have aout 10 games of Words with Friends going on line but I spend less than an hour a day on those now. I miss browses in thrift stores and being able to have a snack in my favorite Chinese restaurant while gathering provisions in nearby chinatown..
But then I've really been on a kind of lockdown for several years... Ashley hs been my consolation for not being able to afford to just get in a car and drive across the country visting firends and hiking in the high desert and hunting for treasures to sell on ebay and she is a great comfort to me now.
So it wa worrisome to reliase how much weight she had lost in the last couple of months.. A check-up was planned for June or July since she will turn 15 this summer but she has been "off her feed" now for a while - I got my $1200 stimulus payment about 10 days ago... so three days ago we went to the vet. She appears to have IBD (Inflammatory bowel desease) . A vet visit in the time of Covid-19 is you go to the door and vet comes out to gather the patient does a quick check-up with blood test and (for me - a free nail clip - bettter than the ones I give her). An anti-inflammatory shot was given along with a vitamin B shot to improve appetite but it was a relief that her weight loss was attributed to something fairly easily to treat and that she doesn't have "a mass"
So now Ashley is getting more wet food than she had been wanting or used to.. eating various kitten selections and I'm trying a "Digestive" from a recommened brand (Royal Canin) .. and some "Greenies" treats -.. she is eagerly gobbling up the news stuff but won't touch the standard kibbles that we had been feeding her for the past few years from Hill's Science Diet. Doc said lets see how this goes we might have to do an ultra sound in a couple of months _ I didn't ask - give the curbside exchange system with someone waiting (they only take in one 4-pawed cirtter at a time).
Happily, Ashley got to see the same DOctor she has seen in the past. When we were met at the door the vet asked if I had someplace to go for the 30 to 45 minutes the check up would take (out of her concern for me just having to stand around outside, clearly) so ensued a bit of comic relief. as I replied, "As a matter of fact, I'm going to go to Staples to buy a mouse."
ann . I miss most browsing and gathering in my local thrift stores.. On 5/15/2020 9:03 AM, Daniel J. Matyola wrote:
My home state of New Jersey has the highest per capita infection and death rate of any place. That is mostly a product of our proximity to New York and our busy airports, but it is still a heavy burden. We've had only one new infection detected nationwide over the past 4 or 5 days so hopefully we'll be back to normality soon. We can even get takeaways now :) If things go well then we'll be able to open our borders soon, at least to Australia and the Pacific islands. Tourism is our second largest export so the sooner this happens the better. Cheers, DaveOn May 15, 2020, at 3:48 AM, Steve Cottrell <[email protected]> wrote: On 14/5/20, Daniel J. For me, that means the water is open again and I can head down to the marina where my boat awaits the joys of refitting. Lot of work to to.As far as the virus is concerned, I think the greatest chances ofcatching it are in large population centres and indoor places like food stores etc. Fortunately in our region of west Oxfordshire there have only been in the order of 250 to 300 deaths total - although they likely would have passed away at the Oxford hospitals 20 miles away, as we have nothing like that around here. Swindon in Wiltshire is the other closest conurbation with hospitals.Either way, practical precautions are needed and transmission is mostlikely through infected surfaces, so common sense essential. There's a lot of polarisation of views - some think it's far too early to ease the lockdown, others think that common sense and some responsible attitude and precautions are all that are needed. I'm in the latter group, but then, I have no direct impact from anyone passing through the virus. Doubtless if I did, I may well think differently. Impossible to know so I won't hypothesize. I'm 60 and have no fear of going out into the world. I would not change my view if I were 70 or even older.
