Rob, I agree that *as a final* image format, it doesn't realy matter RAW or JPEG or TIFF (as long as not GIF :)
However, there is a good reason those hight end digicams store 10 to 12 bit/color images. Taking Canon D60 and storing its output as JPEG (or any kind of 8 bit format) effectively makes it as good as a 6MP digfital P&S in terms of lattitude and tonality range. And then you decide to adjust the curves... Then there is another side of editing. You open it, you tweak it you save it. 10 times through JPEG cycle -- and say goodbye to your whatever that great lens had captured. But I agree, the storage is getting there. I guess, it applies to pretty much anything digicam: it's getting there, but not quite yet. Would love to see it though.
