Yesterday, when we finally set our lights outside of the house, - I saw a neighbor setting his telescope - 2 houses down from us. Remembering your heads-up about the celestial event [*], and having seen the two planets close to each other last night with the naked eye, - I suggested my daughter to walk over and chat. He confirmed setting it up for the big planets, and offered to look at them. He's got a serious telescope with the tracer, etc. I saw Jupiter with 4 moons and the Saturn with the rings (for the first time in my life). My daughter could see the same sans the 4th moon - she couldn't adjust the focus for her eyes. While the telescope was being set up, - she also got to see moon craters (for the first time in her life).

I was very impressed.

Something good came out of us being late with the decorations. :-)

[*] Many thanks for that heads-up!

Cheers,
Igor

I had a little better luck with the planets tonight, this is my best, you
can actually see Saturn’s rings without squinting too hard

After the conjunction was too deep in the haze, I decided to see whether
the Tamron worked better with or without the 2x using my lunar test
subject. When cropped to about the same size the shots with the 2x did
seem a bit sharper
