I did my usual cursory research and have ordered a Seagate Firecuda 1TB drive. This thing plugs directly into the motherboard. I decided to get the PCI 3 version, since that is what my MB supports. The PCI 4 wasn't that much more, but I'm not planning on swapping out my computer any time soon, so I wouldn't be taking advantage of the extra speed, and with my luck, by the time I do swap computers, they will be up to PCI 6 or some such.

I upgraded to the cloud based Adobe photo suite about a year ago. I use
photoshop and bridge for the most part, and they’re quite fast on my five year
old iMac. But the Mac was top of the line when new so it has a 4 gigahertz i7
four-core processor and a good Radeon graphics card, I use an SSD as a scratch
disc, store current files on an SSD and manage files with bridge. I’m a happy
camper.

I'm on CC for a while. My main use is Lightroom Classic not Lightroom.
You might enjoy the sync functions of Lightroom Classic to Lightroom,
lightroom Web and the Apps. If you do, you probably will also want to
sync smart collections. That needs some tweaking.
Prepare yourself to start searching for a cheap gamers GPU card which
speeds up lightroom (2x 3x depends on what you do). And an SSD for the
catalog and previews.

Thanks!! My graphics gard has 6gb of ram on board, so I think I'm OK there. I
have a 112 or so GD SSD that I use for PS swap, I will probably invest in
another one to migrate the catalogs onto. Right now they are on a relatively
dedicated spin drive.
