>Anyone use their Pentaxes on a boat?
I own this very fun boat with a 50hp outboard engine: http://www.zodiac.ca/boats/models/futurasp.html I've shot a lot with my 300/2.8 from this boat. I've also shot successfully with my FA* 600/4 but only in totally calm waters while resting the lens on the boats inflatable tubes. However, this boat drift and rotates fast so its very difficult to keep the subject in the viewfinder. In fact, the 600mm works surprisingly well; the problem is supporting the lens. Hand holding is impossible due to its significant weight so I'm looking into ways to eliminate the problem. My latest idea is to bolt some kind of pole to the steering console of the boat, and on top of this pole mount a rod at 90 degrees. Then I plan to hang some strap from this rod that cradles the lens. In this way the lens will be suspended and pivoted to counteract waves. Anyway, shooting from a boat is great fun, particularly chasing sea birds. With todays films like the Provia 400F shooting with 600mm lens from a boat is definitely doable. Pl - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List.
