The symbol beside the slider switch represents an infra-red remote controller and the beam radiating from it. Sliding the switch up uncovers the rear IR cell and arms the remote sensors on the front and back of the camera. They will remain armed for approximately five minutes, during which time the self-timer lamp on the front of the camera will continue to flash. If you operate the remote, there will be a three-second delay, then the shutter will trip, so you can move the remote out of sight for self-portraits. To trigger the shutter immediately, set Pentax Function 19 to '2'. The sensors will remain armed indefinitely. In this way, it can be used like a cable release. When using the remote, autofocus is not activated. Switch off AF and focus manually. This way the camera can remain focused on the subject. I'm only familiar with remote control 'E'. It costs $25Cdn, and is small enough to be stored in one of the neckstrap pockets. The camera will operate with the BG-10 power switch off, but to operate the grip controls or the remote, the grip power switch must be turned on. Hope this is helpful.
