Lens makers like to test their lenses with a TOC of 1000:1. This
is the equivalent of a knife edge, with black on one side, and
white on the other.
Any lens (or film) will give excellent resolution numbers with
this sort of test.
In the real world, a TOC of 6:1 is more the norm.
