Hey - let's have a monopod vs tripod thread ;-) My Vanguard monopod isn't tall enough for me! I now only ever use it without the pan and tilt head (with quick release system) which loses me about 3 inches in height. On goes a 300 2.8 straight onto the exposed bolt protruding up through the middle. So...
Into the garage and onto the bench. Off came the handle, leaving the raw end exposed. A plastic bung was located in the end, the camera bush sticking out of the middle. It refused all efforts at persuading it to move, so i chopped it off, losing another 2 inches in height. Rummaging around, I found an old piece of goal posts (kiddy's football in the garden type) that fit just inside the Vanguard. Going for overkill, I also used a piece of wooden broom handle. That smashed neatly into the goal post, which inserted deftly into what's left of the monopod top. Drilled and screwed into place. Plastic surround handle reattached. Drilled straight into the exposed broom handle at the top (now sprayed black) and tapped in a long bolt, head then removed, correct size. Used superglue on the bolt to help lock into place. Early loss of 5 inches has been wiped out by a rise of 8 inches. Yes folks, that's a net gain of 3 inches! And in a single 2-hour session on the bench, I have rendered my 'mono-stoop' a thing of the past :-) I'll do some drawings when I can. My monopod is better than your monopod! :-p Cotty _______________________________________________________ Personal email traffic to [EMAIL PROTECTED] MacAds traffic to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Check out the UK Macintosh ads http://www.macads.co.uk - This message is from the Pentax-Discuss Mail List.
