You could do exactly the same with the MZ-S. If you simply
1) turn it on,
2) turn the aperture ring,
3) turn the main dial to get shutter speed (which can be viewed on top
or through the viewfinder) and
4) focus on manual,

you would have exactly the same number of movements as a Spotmatic.
The "Hyper" mode defaults to this manual configuration if you just what
you would have done on a manual camera, and the main dial is exactly
where the shutter speed dial would be. It's actually funny because if
people would do exactly what they would do with a manual camera
(assuming that you recognize that speed dial reads out digitally) the
MZ-S would function normally. Of course, you can also

1) turn it on,
2) point and shoot

Since I learned to use SLR's on the SP500, I still find it nice to use
my MZ-S in "Spotmatic Mode".

I will admit that I have not made my peace with the focus point
selector, and I always find it faster to focus and recompose. On the
other hand, I do not really try to use the continuous autofocus on
moving subjects. I think the best way to pick an autofocus point that I
have seen is the "Thumb roller" by Contax, which simply scrolls though
the points, especially if they made it a dedicated switch.

> The MZ-S is pretty simple to my mind:
> Change the aperture - twist the aperture ring
> Change the shutter speed - spin the control wheel
> Set the camera back to Program - press the green button on the front
> Lock everything - press the Hold button
> Check the focus - press the AF button
> Check DOF - pull the on-off switch back
> Select the focus point - slide left middle finger around the lens
mount

If you think thats simple,

Try using a spotmatic:

set aperture
set shutter speed
focus manually on what you want
shoot
