Hi Keith,
    The meter remains on, but the current flow is very low when the lens cap
is in place. For the meter circuit to open up, the lens must be partialy
unscrewed or mount a non SMC lens.
    The K1000 was an improvement in that the meter was de-activated when the
lens cap was put on.
