Reade's has always been the best for all the years I've been into
photography. I like the way they let you play with the equipment, and
the people there are genuinely helpful and into photography. They
have a great selection of used equipment and the prices are good. I'm
still kicking myself for not grabbing a P3 I saw there for $39 last
fall.

There were two brothers who owned it, but I think one is dead, now.
I'm not sure which one, though.

I used to have another friend who dated the friend of the daughter of
one of the above mentioned brothers, I think her name was Monica.
When I was in there last she was sitting in the office looking as if
she was running the place (the daughter that is). She used to be
married to a guy who worked there who was such an all around jerk
that I refused to set foot in the place for over fifteen years...even
though he left her (and the store) in the late '80s. I finally
relented last year and bought my 50mm macro there. I was in there
this spring and picked up a gorgeous SMC K 200mm F4.0 for $C175,
which I think was a pretty good deal. But you are right about trades.
I wanted to trade in a lens for the macro and they would not take
it...said they don't take trade ins on used lenses.

Shame!

I always pay them a visit to poke through their used stuff, though it
has been decades since I bought anything from them besides the odd
slide tray.

And the telescopes they sell are mostly low end mass market stuff.

I'll be heading back to London for a week in late October and I'll
probably be visiting them all...searching for an ultrawide angle
lens. Reade's had the 17mm Tamron when I was there this past spring
for something like $C649 but if I can find a used one for less I will
go for that.
