Hi Dan, I'm not Fred, but FWIW I borrowed a Jupiter 9 briefly and did a quick compare against my M85/2. It was somewhat softer at 2 and 2.8, but pretty comparable from f/4 on down. The softness would have been ok for softening wrinkles, etc. The build quality is mediocre, certainly not up to the Zenitar 16/2.8 for instance, or anything Pentax. If I was wanted an inexpensive 85, I think it's a good deal. The stop down aperture was ok, because I usually do portraits at f//4 or wider and it wasn't too bad to focus at working aperture.
