   It would, if it was the second or third generation of DSLR, built
   on expandable technologies. As I said, I think Pentax was forced to
   design the new camera from scratch, so reusing an existing chassis
   has little impact over the global project. There are other stages,
   not dependant of the chassis, that demand the biggest effort,
   dictate the deadline, and very likely the overall cost. This may be
   a good time to bring a new chassis, with little repercussion on the
   costs and delivery but with significant market impact. Who knows,
   we might be confronted with a E-1 like chassis with room for nose
   ;o) though Pentax specifically stated both film and digital slr
   will look the same. Personally I would have preferred an MZ-S
   design and look and feel, but can only hope they won't listen to
   Cameron ;o) and dump the great MZ-S interface.

   Back to development, I can only guess that all camera components,
   including the software, are now designed with a reusability goal,
   especially if they want to keep up with the 6 months products life
   cycle.
