It's not such an issue with USB peripherals, since they are designed to be "hot (un)pluggable". Unless the OS or drivers are brain dead or it's a mass storage device :-). Then things get iffy even with USB. With serial, parallel, HPIB/GPIB (IEEE 488), and SCSI, however, it can be crucial to the proper operation of the device(s) and/or system they're attached to. I don't have any experience with FireWire (IEEE 1394?), so I can't intelligently comment on that. I assume that FireWire was designed for "hot (un)plugs", though, since it's so recent, and it's aimed at consumers. TTYL, DougF KG4LMZ
