Vincent, like you, I had issues getting a RealTek chipset working with
Ubuntu 5.10 (the latest). Mine is a PCMCIA WI-FI by Linksys, identified
as RTL8180L. I will keep an eye on this thread to see if you find a
resolution for the RealTek chipset on Ubuntu.

FYI, a couple of weeks ago I purchased an Air Link 101 (Frys house brand)
on sale @ about US$20. The card has an Atheros AR5212 802.11abg chipset.
Beware, I've been advised Frys & others change chipsets all the time.
But the box had "Atheros" written all over it, so I was comfortable.
I think Frys had PCI boards with Atheros chipsets competitively priced too.

As far as Ubuntu 5.10:
After the "lspci" command recognized & identified the Atheros PCMCIA card.
Ubuntu configured the Atheros chipset, there was no need to enter commands.
From the menu; System / Administration / Networking / Wireless connection
/ Properties / Enable this connection / choose a network / I chose DHCP.

Incidentally, SLAX Live Distro 5.0.6 has Atheros configured by default too.
But Ubuntu seems more solid to me.

Warm regards,
Chuck Langenberg
