Caleb,

It would be great to have you document what you do to update these
packages.  I am still somewhat unfamiliar with how to update a gem or
even verify that it is the latest version.  But if you are asking
people to come updated, it would be good to have a summary of the
baseline for that.  I know how to apt-get, but ruby usually operates
outside that package manager, so I'd love to have this process
documented somewhere,

Alas, I cannot make it tonight regardless.  But, very soon I hope to
attend.  :)
