It would be great to have you document what you do to update these
packages.  I am still somewhat unfamiliar with how to update a gem or
even verify that it is the latest version.  But if you are asking
people to come updated, it would be good to have a summary of the
baseline for that.  I know how to apt-get, but ruby usually operates
outside that package manager, so I'd love to have this process
documented somewhere,

Okay. As I did my own updates I took careful notes about everything I did, and then put them on my wiki. Here you go:

And sure, this has all been documented elsewhere, but I guess being a little pdxruby.org specific is worth something.

Another reminder that if you want to help hack on pdxruby.org you need
to prepare your laptop for development. I will be installing/updating
all of these packages on my laptop today before the meeting:
