I say pseudo-require because the default rendering logic can easily be overridden if you have some other way you wish to render SVG to an image. The 0.2.0 gem should include a BatikRasterizer class I built for calling Apache Batik to do just that (just by shelling out, nothing fancy). Batik's SVG rendering is much better than ImageMagick's. Unfortunately, it isn't very efficient to fire off a Java process every time you want to render a graph, unless your website gets 2 hits a day or something. But the point is, it's possible, and I'd happily switch the default rasterizer to something other than ImageMagick if anyone has any good ideas in that regard. :)
It wouldn't be too hard to create a persistent java process that just listened for requests to render new jobs. I mean, if you *really* need to do that sort of thing... thankfully, I don't. ;~) _______________________________________________ PDXRuby mailing list [email protected] IRC: #pdx.rb on irc.freenode.net http://lists.pdxruby.org/mailman/listinfo/pdxruby
