Hmm, interesting.
My initial approach was reading the net-tools (Linux) and ifconfig
(BSD) sources: I initially wrote this 6+ months ago, but it was when
I reached for the BSD sources that my head started spinning.
I took the low-ball route, obviously - and it goes without saying
that there are people out there who understand these particular
segments of code, I'm just not one of those people.
