There's also CadSoft's Eagle software.  I don't have any experience with it,
but it's been around as a product line for years, and there are versions to
run on Windows, Linux, and Mac.

As for me, I like Protel 99SE and will continue to use it for a long time.
The only things I can forsee that would make me switch are:

1) If I cannot keep W2K running on PC hardware, or it cannot be made to run
in a Windows emulator on Linux.
2) Something else comes along that is much better, and easy to evaluate
before buying, and costs less.
3) Some new whizbang gotta-have PCB technology comes along that cannot be
done by 99SE's capabilities.  Don't know what this would be, maybe
n-dimensional quantum resonant tunneling substrates with buckyball composite
high-temperature superconductive layers.  Yes, that was something I just
made up - now excuse me while I patent it ;-)
