Bob

How many people use the FPGA tools at all as part of the protel suite ?

I don't use them at all apart from interest, simply because they are
there, I am still not sure of the exact fit for the tools to be honest,
as the OEM vendors tools need installed for the module to work and any
of the FAE's that have visited us have been less than enthusiastic about
it.

I would see a sustained use for the ability to import a pin list from
CSV, delimited file or spreadsheet for library parts, that's a plus for
sure if it was standard feature without scripting in a straight PCB
design environment.

Certainly pin swapping for FPGA parts and parts with unassigned or
swappable I/O is a benefit for sure.

I had 1 upgraded seat of DXP then to DXP2004, I upgraded another seat
from 99SE > DXP2004 this year, the FPGA portion was not even on the wish
list, never mind the must have list.

The nanoboard is a nice toy though, gives me something to work with to
better understand the limitations of any ECO's I request in FPGA parts
by giving me an insight into the FPGA design cycle and constraints
whenever I want so I can appreciate the required layout changes and
design requirements better. We work a lot with pre release silicon from
some companies, evaluation boards etc, its nice when you can get the
vendor to reassign I/O cells on their ASIC to make routing/matching a
bit better.....
