Even better...

Zoom out a lot, then Select all (using the shortcut keys s-a), then grab
something visible and drag it, Protel will draw a box around the limits of
everything that exists on your board (assuming you have a reasonable amount
of things there), including everything that is off the visible screen. Drag
until the whole box is on the visible screen.

This way you can actually see if there was anything there or not and recover
it back onto your normal board space, confirming if this was indeed the
problem. You may want to reset your origin after doing this of course since
you just moved everything...

But likely this won't find anything if you've done the delete thing
suggested by Darcy and Brad already, but a handy trick to get things back
without deleting them, so thought it was worth sharing :)

Cheers,
Dave S.

Hey Michael,

Not to kick a dead horse, but did you catch the second paragraph in Brad's
email? The reason I ask is that the problem you describe is a dead ringer
for a common problem with P99se. What happens is that P99 will let you
inadverdantly move a component outside of the screen area (if you happen to
have it selected when you try to move another component). When this happens,
it doesn't show the net connections etc, and it won't update properly. So,
if you do as Brad says and select all (SA), then deselect inside area (to
deselect the parts you want to keep), and then ctrl-delete to remove the
[still selected] offending components. This will delete the components that
are off the page, allowing you to re-update the PCB and get them added
again.

Forgive me if you've already done this already, but you didn't mention
trying this, and the symptoms are so close to this problem...

Darcy

Again, thank you for your suggestions, Peter and Brad. Things are not
looking
good. The relay footprint is a circular pattern, and it's centered around
the
(0,0) origin. I have a much earlier PCB, before I entered the many changes,
that has the relays on the board, along with several other components that I
now realize are missing in the new PCB. I made a copy of it and tried to
update
it, but the changes were so many (renamed components, etc.), that it ended
up
with macros that it would not complete. It could no longer get to the new
from
the old.

I believe that I'm dealing with some type of file corruption now, but I
can't
put my finger on exactly what it is. I noticed yesterday that I had lost
the
power and ground plane assignment to the PCB, and there were no nets
available
in the dropdown to select from. Big flag on the play, there. A computer
restart
fixed that, but nothing else.

>From the PCB, I generated a footprint library and it has all the footprints

(including the ones that are not visible on the PCB). I'm thinking about
moving
my files to another computer and see if the problem follows, using that to
isolate between problems with the Protel application itself and my DDB
files.

Thanks again, Michael
