In AD2004, you have a couple of choices for initiating printing - you can print from an "Outjob", or you can print from the main editor menu.

The "Outjob" printer settings are stored in the "Outjob" file, and will be the same each time you print. The editor printing preferences are stored in the specific schematic or PCB file. If you don't use a standard file setup of your own to start a new job, you will see the program default to A4. If you make standard files that you copy into each new project, you can specify your own defaults.

If you don't have or use standard setup files, you either have to take the time to reset the printer output each time or you have to start using the "Outjob" to generate your prints.

This has been discussed ad nauseam in the Altium forums.

When I try to print it doesn't even go to my Windows default printer, it

royal pain!

Yeah,
I know, I have read the same complaint a number of times both on
this forum and the DXP forum. However, across two companies and the last
6 years of constantly using Protel P99SE, I haven't had it default to A4
size even once. It either comes up on Letter or it may come up on 11 x
17/Tabloid if that was what I last set it to for a similar print
function.
My suggestion was not that it was just the driver, that would
mean it 'should' also behave the same way with other apps but rather a
combination of the driver and something in Protel's code.
Over the whole time I have used Protel I have always been connected to
HP laser printers, 5000 or various 5 series printers.

Hmm... I don't think my particular problem is with the Windows Drivers.
It only happens in Protel. There has to be a global default setting
somewhere, but I have yet to find it. I set my templates up as "B" size
explicitly and whenever I turn my back the dammed Aussie POS defaults
back to A4 or something equally unpleasant.

:(
