Both are right, and this is not the twilight zone. Both are right
because there are two different meanings for "Altium." One is an
official organization, the other is the unincorporated association of
the employees. Altium may not officially monitor this list.
"Officially monitor" would mean that an employee is assigned to do
it. But it would be rather surprising if there are no employees
reading this list, and, even, that there are no *high-level
employees* reading this list. After all, wouldn't you?

*How in the world would any one of us know that "Altium" -- in the
broader sense -- is not monitoring this list*??? And, setting aside
Altium employees, how would we know that there is *no* official monitor?

The situation went through stages (after I became involved):
(1) Protel officially did not monitor the list. I was told, however,
that nearly every employee read it. And I got email from employees to
prove it. (And I also got personal email from the Sales Manager of a
competing CAD system, who acknowledged that *he* regularly read the
list. After all, wouldn't you?)

I was told that, at this time, generally, Protel employees were
prohibited from writing to the list. (And for good reason. Arguing
with users, which can happen all too easily, doesn't much help the company....)

(2) Protel officially monitored the list, and responded when
appropriate, using the account [EMAIL PROTECTED] or something like
that. CSC stands for Customer Service Center.

(3) Occasionally, other employees did write directly; for example,
Nick Martin wrote, as I recall. Which does not prove that there was
no policy prohibiting employees, since Mr. Martin might presumably
feel free to disregard that....

(4) Altium started its own official list for DXP. Altium employees
freely participate in this official list under their own names. As to
the PEDA Forum, Altium, I'd guess, does not want substantial employee
time going into supporting an obsolete product, i.e. 99SE.... -- so
I'd not be surprised if there is a policy discouraging directly
posting here. But I certainly don't know.
