Jim, The number of converses of an n-place relation is just n factorial (n!). When he says 5 transpositions for a 3-place relation he is just talking about the 5 additional ones besides the one you came in with, yielding (n! - 1) for the number of what he calls "transposition-functions" of an n-fold relative at the end of CP 3.224.
