Gary, List: As it happens, I just read Short's 1996 response yesterday, after joining the CSP Society and thus gaining online access to its *Transactions*. I was planning to look for Lalor's paper in the near future, but you have saved me the trouble, for which I sincerely thank you. Unfortunately, though, neither sheds much further light on the particular questions that I am trying to answer.
