I don’t have time to say much - I want to carefully read over the relevant 
passages in depth before saying anything anyway. 

I’d just note that relative to Hegel the dating of the passages becomes pretty 
important.

It’s worth noting too that James sees the main difference between his view and 
Peirce’s as over the existence of the Absolute. While obviously his logic is 
quite different from Peirce’s, if we’re analyzing the notions rather than just 
trying to situate Peirce’s views it’s worth reading James here.
