Hi Michael I've been told that it is virtually impossible to REALLY wipe the data on a hard drive and that with the proper data recovery equipment and software you can get back your data. But yes, the computer itself, would have been blown to smithereens, with the hard drive slammed against some or other tropical tree - waiting to be taken for data recovery.
I think whoever came up with this one got the idea from the 'theft' of the Brazilian computer with all the exploration data on it!
