Why not stick with the usage of > "growth" that is implicit in the general discourse anyway instead of > introducing redefinitions etc? it really doesn't answer the idea that "there are other meanings to the word 'growth'." It simply accepts the "general discourse" uncritically, with the effect of setting up a scarecrow version of "growth." in a science, such as biology or physics, practitioners don't use unadorned words like "growth" or "expansion" to mean "development of the organism" or "growth of the size of the universe." Even in economics, there are other kinds of growth besides that of GDP, such as growth of real wages, measured happiness, and environmental sustainability.(Of course, some if not all of those growth rates are negative.) -- Jim Devine / "Nobody told me there'd be days like these / Strange days indeed -- most peculiar, mama." -- JL. _______________________________________________ pen-l mailing list [email protected] https://lists.csuchico.edu/mailman/listinfo/pen-l
