Oh yes there is a dialectic that moved Lincoln toward ending slavery.
To me that parallels Obama succeeding at reformist initiatives. Our
position is out beyond that place. Why? For example our position is
not tied to U.S. capitalist interests. Obama cannot go anti-
capitalist. But to survive he can absorb reforms that anti-capitalist
forces bring up as needed at the moment.
What I think then is to open the door to the discussion. Make it
possible to imagine now what it would be like if the anti-capitalist
movement was strong enough to force upon Obama Lincoln-like choices.
But since we don't know what our limits are we do not need to settle
for Obama and his obvious limitations by any means.
