That is, if the organizations they form continue to fight for collective goals rather than themselves adopting the individualistic rhetoric and rationale of the mainstream. See Marc Linder's discussion of the abandonment by union officials of the collectivist argument for shorter work time, which he referred to as a "sea change". "'...the normalization of the work day and workweek appears historically as a struggle between the "aggregate capitalist, ie., the class of capitalists, and the aggregate worker or the working class.'" Marx, quoted in Linder. "The sea change in the conflict over a shorter workweek is captured by the current union refrain that 'the question is... should workers be forced to work should they be given the choice to spend time with their families?'"
