Although I have never been in love with Berkeley, I had lived there
for 13 years, so I still miss Berkeley. I have not been to College
Avenue since 2006, but I know a bit about the heydays you are talking
about. How is that Mediterranean place across Bank of America near
Ashby doing in these days?

I used to go to an Indian Restaurant called Khana Pena on Solano
Avenue. Their older brother, the head of the family, was very
entrepreneurial, and with his efforts, they expanded to three more
restaurants in Berkeley. One was in the so-called Gourmet District,
close to the Clintonian favorite Chez Panese, the other was close to
Oakland on College and the last was across UC Berkeley, near where
University Avenue meets UC Berkeley.

I don't remember what the name was, but the shool my son went to was
formerly a restaurant also, on University Avenue, owned by some
Persians.

I don't know if you heard the name of Ken Rosen: he is a real estate
guy at Haas School of Business. He was a doom sayer like I in those
days and the only times he felt good was when he and I had some wine
together at Haas parties, becaue he realized at those parties that
there was at least another person who was more pessimistic than he.
Eventually he had to convert to an optiomist, because it was
impossible to carry that line at a business school that long, but I
continued.

"Happy" depressions!

Best,
Sabri
