I don't think she meant that comment in that way. Arundhati Roy is too smart not to realize that over-consumption is closely related to the overall growth and accumulation dynamic. I like that quote because if we begin deconstructing that little phrase, a bigger truth emerges. It is not about how much someone eats. It is about how much goes into what someone eats. And drinks (and drives and works etc).
