David, your question is both difficult and easy.  It is difficult because 
science, even when it is unified, is fallible, as people like Galileo and 
Bruno discovered to their peril.  Yet, when something I drop falls to the 
ground, I suspect gravity is at work.  I also believe in evolution though I 
will never be able to satisfy a believer in intelligent design.

Your question is also easy, in the sense that we have little choice but to 
dismiss quacks and rely on scientists.  We can be sure that they have some 
of the specifics of global warming wrong, just as Newton did.
