I think that the idea that the Israel Lobby was responsible for the war in Iraq is false, but this is not quite the same thing going on here. Basically the USA has no material interest in forcing Israel to behave differently toward the Palestinians. That will only change when, for example, the Muslim Brotherhood comes to power in Egypt and Jordan and/or Israel decides to attack Iran thus threatening its Middle East oil interests with uncontrollable and unpredictable consequences.

But the idea of an "inner Rachel Corrie" strikes me as about as foolish as all those Nation Magazine articles urging Obama to "seize the initiative".
