It's amazing that (even though there are significant differences when it comes to domestic policy) Obama and McCain are so similar in terms of foreign policy, continuing the political monopoly of what used to be the "Cold War consensus." This reminds me of a comment I wanted to make earlier but forgot: back during the Dubya Decade (or what seemed to be a decade), a some liberals had "Jeb Bartlett is my President" bumper stickers, saying that the fictional president of the "West Wing" would be superior to the hated Shrub. But even though Bartlett was somewhat "liberal" on domestic issues, he was very much the Cold Warrior (the US is the World Cop, Judge, and Jury) type. In some ways, Obama is the real-world version of Bartlett. By the way, even though I don't have much respect for "international law" (since law doesn't mean much when there's no state to back it up), I understand that Obama's use of drones violates that law, adding to the terrorist nature of his actions. -- Jim Devine / "Segui il tuo corso, e lascia dir le genti."
