No revolutions? As Ipuwer lamented, "slaves are wearing the jewels of
their masters." And the Book of Exodus describes the same event
(celebrating, not lamenting) as "The Israelites found favor in the
eyes of the Egyptians" and left with their gold and jewels.

CB: Jim D said that the Egyptians had socialized appropriation ( first
I had heard of that). What u describe would be facts fitting that
situation: the working class appropriating the value they produce. If
there is socialized appropriation, there is no need for revolution;
communism already exists. Very interesting that the Israelites
themselves claim that they got gold and jewels from their hosts in
Egypt.

I don't buy that "Let my people go " line in Exodus. The Pharoah in
Joseph's time rewarded Joseph by allowing him to bring his whole tribe
into the advanced civlization of Egypt. The Egyptians only suppressed
the Israelites when they didn't control their birth rate and started
to outnumber the Egyptians. This is the Israelites own version in the
Book. The Israelites became rude guests. I think they got kicked out.
So, it wasn't about "let them go".

If all the "ifs" are true, then "slaves" would be the wrong term. It
may be a term from more modern slave systems projected inaccurately
onto the Egyptian system.
