I showed the statement from old revolutionaries (in Chinese) to an apolitical person from China now living in the U.S. She responded right away, "That [living up to the fine quotations from the Chinese constitution] can't happen. It will take a revolution." And for years she has made clear that the old imperial divide between officials and common people has returned. No illusion about the government there.
Speaking for her siblings, workers in China, the immediate thing they want most is a shorter work week; sixty and seventy hours a week leave them no time for a life.
