I showed the statement from old revolutionaries (in Chinese) to an
apolitical person from China now living in the U.S. She responded right
away, "That [living up to the fine quotations from the Chinese
constitution] can't happen. It will take a revolution." And for years
she has made clear that the old imperial divide between officials and
common people has returned. No illusion about the government there.

Speaking for her siblings, workers in China, the immediate thing they
want most is a shorter work week; sixty and seventy hours a week leave
them no time for a life.
