  Marx never believed that a "uniform rate of
profit" existed in reality, he was only talking about the minimum conditions
for longer-term business viability under competitive conditions (the
Farjoun/Machover chaos crowd are tilting at a straw man here).

You are right about Marx, but they were tilting at Samuelson and Steedman who 
did their work on the basis that there did exist a uniform rate of profit.
Certainly the latter two assume that the rate of profit is uncorrelated with 
the organic composition.
